- Sengiggi, Lombok to Labuan Bajo, Flores by Perama Tour Boat – Day 3
There was not much on day 2 of the Perama Tour itinerary; it was most traveling with only 2 stops but this gave us a good chance to relax on the boat. The first stop in the morning was Satonda island. This island is located off the northern coast in the middle of Sumbawa. We had to get on the smaller boat and be ferried onto the island. We took a short walk to the lake in the center of the island. I believe the lake is a result of a crater left by a volcano. The lake is very close to the coast and is very salty, which makes it easy to float. Some people went for a swim in the lake and some people just hung out around the shore. The guide mentioned that there was a trail that led to a viewpoint but only some people went. There are rocks strung up on tree branches along the shore. The locals believe this will help their dreams come true. The guide said there were not many fish in the lake so it was not good for snorkeling. There was only one other group at the lake the same time we were. I spoke to some of the guys on the other boat and it seems like their boat was pretty similar to ours. They were headed in the opposite direction as us; Flores to Lombok. One of the guys overheard me talking to our tour guide and mentioned that he learned more from our tour guide in that moment than from his tour guide on this whole trip.
After we were done swimming in the lake, everyone made their way back to the ocean shore and just hung out there. Not too many people laid out on the the beach because the sand was not that nice. We had some time to swim in the ocean or just walk around the beach. After this, we just boarded the smaller boat to be brought back to the main boat.
The rest of the day we just continued on to our next destination and had lunch on the boat. This was a good chance to hang out on the boat, catch some rays on the deck or talk with other people on the boat. Our next and last stop of the day would be Tanjung Batu Besar. We dropped anchor here and people started jumping off the top deck of the boat. It’s pretty high up, about 10 meters or so. Some people dove off head first (see above) but most people just did a regular jump into the water. People would climb back onto the boat to jump off the boat again until they got bored and eventually swam to shore.
After swimming around Tanjung Batu Besar, we just had dinner on the boat and continued on our way.
